Gameplay thoughts after completing game

STAMINA: drained too fast and recovered too slowly. The stamina bar should be put next to health bar. Get rid of stamina usage when climbing or swimming.

HEALTH/HEAL: get rid of the cooldown to heal. Add ability to be fully healed at ‘bonfire’ locations. Not a fan of scavenging materials to make various levels of health. Especially in dark souls combat that can be very punishing, healing needs to be done right. Follow other souls-esque games and give the user a set number of ‘flasks/potions’ to rejuvenate health, stamina, and focus. Let these flasks be reset to allowed number after death or reaching a checkpoint. Let us earn more healing potions as we level up or loot. The same goes for the amount regenerated when using potion.

COMBAT: speed/damage of melee weapon attacks needs to be balanced. 2hand weapons I used were too slow. Some 1hand weapon attacks seemed too fast. Damage output of melee weapons seemed underwhelming. Regular strikes and charge strikes need to do damage. Especially in boss fights. I dont expect to one-shot anything but fights seemed prolonged due to low damage output by weapons I used. Parry and block should be like other souls games and allow the user to collect health back if successful counter-attack. Parry window can be slightly bigger. Would be nice to have a ‘tap’ dodge move and double ‘tap’ to roll.

RESPEC: games are more fun when you’re allowed to try various weapons and their movesets/abilities.

RUNES: would be nice to have description of what each rune does before purchase and possibly a demonstration of rune ability. Rune abilities need to be balanced.

ENEMIES: adjust/balance enemy damage. Boss health bars need a slight nerf. Especially if they have another phase. Nerf enemy aggro of enemies out of view. Shield wielding enemies need a nerf.

SCAVENGING/EXPLORING: scavenging to find healing ingredients was really unenjoyable. Same goes for finding material for building and or updating gear. Right now, a single piece of armor needs 10 silver, yet there are only 2 tedious locations to get the silver. These locations only give 1 silver each time. Other things like a bear claw I just bought because I was not finding it no matter how much I ‘explored’.
Exploring is cool the first time through but once you know where everything is that enjoyment goes away. RNG loot feels like Starfield. Gets boring and tiring at a certain point.

RESOURCES/INGREDIENTS: needs better balance of common and rare resources. Felt like there was an endless supply of mushrooms and crab but not the plant that is needed to complete recipe. Also, recipes ingredients that give higher health were rare if not nonexistent for me. Most times I just got higher health items from enemies which is not ideal.

INVENTORY: Just make it so there are 5 equippable slots and we get to choose what goes in them. Really wasn’t a fan of how we would beat a boss and then go give ichor to the dude just to unlock another row of inventory. Was a big bummer, I expected some buff to my character but it was far from it.

DURABILITY: I just don’t see the point of it. I’m not a fan unless you follow something like Lies of P that allows u to keep ur weapon durable for free.

CRAFT/BUILD TIMER: don’t like it but if you do keep the timer, decrease the amount of time for something to be built/crafted by like 80%.

WEAPON/ARMOR PERKS: think they should just be slight buffs and no nerfs. Enchanting a basic weapon and losing rune spots is lame. Enchantments: I think you should tie in cost and the level of enchantment you want. Also, I think enchantments for gear should be set by tier. Blue tier: you get 1 buff enchantment. Purple tier: you get 2 buff enchantment. Yellow tier: you get 3 buff enchantment. Etc. Something along those lines. Regain enchantments seemed op from videos I watched. I personally wasn’t lucky enough to get a good weapon with these to test it myself. Think those should be taken out or balanced.

ARMOR/WEAPON WEIGHT: needs to be balanced. Especially armor.

PERFORMANCE: think you guys know the game needs to be optimized more. I particularly noticed it in combat when a lot of effects were happening for me and enemies. Transitioning to new areas was not smooth.

SUMMONS: would be cool if we had a chance to summon npc/friend for bosses. If I do die at boss fight, I should be spawned back at arena or fairly close.

XP: More difficult enemy/area of enemies should equal more XP. Just needs to be balanced and reward player a bit more.

To wrap it up, I understand the game is early access. I know the developer will do what they believe is best for its gamers and vision. I just hope my input is considered as the game is continuously developed. The game has a lot of potential and I wish you developers nothing but the best to make this a great game!

I love reading through people’s thoughts on the game and seeing the expectations that people have. It seems this game has a wide variance when it comes to peoples expectations and what they thought the game was. I suppose it is expected when mixing souls games and diablo like ARPG.

I rather like the stamina where is is but I get this is a preference and if you are used it it being by your health-bar at the top it can be off putting.

I never liked the food system initially either but later on my inventory was full of healing items and it became inconsequential. When I tried the monster in the war room I was way under levelled and it bothered me that I used all my food up and had to go collecting more ingredients to continue the fight. That was a little frustrating.

I believe respec is on the way in some form. I was asking elsewhere if there was any details of this but I don’t think they have said anything. There is nothing worse than getting a cool weapon you want to try but can’t because you don’t have the stats. Or worse you level up and use your stat increase only to find you don’t get on with the weapon.

The food resources were a little weird to me. The fact that you always needed the plant to make food items was odd. I feel that mixing and matching ingredients so you don’t need a lot of one and fewer of others would be better.

I think inventory space and icor seem to be agreed upon as a thing that needs rework. Having 200 different resources (food items and items for crafting) and only having a few slots in your inventory is just time wasting to me. If they only had a few items then fine or having a large selection of crafting ingredients is great (my preference) but you need a place to store this (building chest in your house when they only have a few slots is tedious as well).

I agree on durability but this seems to be a split decision as far as I can see. Some people hate it and others love it.

the build timer I don’t mind so much but as a game I will play as a single player game I can see how it could get tedious later on.

I agree about the weight of items. Although it adds to the game with making you make choices on what you can wear it is, I find a little over the top.

I would like to have enchanting be more nuanced. I like the negative\side effect of a powerful item but the amount of time I just chuck the weapon because the ‘gold lost on death’ or ‘stamina lost on hit’ was just too powerful a negative. I would like a enchanting that is less RNG (but not totally RNG free) where you get to select the perks you would like and they maybe give you a preview of the negative perk that you will get. Maybe bring the rune system into it?

Hi, good feedback, but some things seemed strange to me.

There is more than a lot of stamina in fabric armor.
This shouldn’t happen in heavy armor

Well, that’s how it should be, isn’t it?
If you don’t have enough damage, then you’ve done something wrong. Try to review the characteristics of the items.

It is already available in the form of properties on item.

Balance patches will be a lot in the future

in general, personally, I am satisfied with the rest or I do not see (again for myself) any inconveniences. There will still be a lot of fixes, adjustments and updates. Will wait

Hi Garr, appreciate the response. I got a message from a developer on my Steam review mentioning that respec is in the works so it sounds like it will be in the game at some point. I to was in the same boat when it came to weighing the good and bad of enchantments on a weapon. Most of the time I didn’t like the abilities so I just sold the weapon like you. I think enchantments need balancing but it would be nice to be able to purchase enchantments like runes.

Hi Mirok, appreciate the response. I think stamina needs to be balanced to not be as punishing as it is right now. Stamina is largely affected by players playstyle. I personally found myself completely out of stamina after parry/dodge and then attacking once maybe twice (depending on weapon). Item, enchantments, and gem buffs are nice but I think stamina by itself can be adjusted to be less punishing.
Weapons wise, I think they just need balancing which will continue to happen even after full release. In my opinion, 2 handed weapons need their attack speed sped up slightly and 1 handed weapons need their attack speed slightly reduced. Finding that balance is tricky but the devs will find it as time goes on.
