Falling off the platform while fighting Cyvion is incredibly frustrating. It’s easy enough to get knocked off and die in the rooms leading up to him and happens to me frequently. It feels so bad to have him at 10% life on his second phase and then get knocked off because I was just a tiny bit too close to the edge and he hits me with an attack that sends me 3 full character lengths backwards. It doesn’t feel good to simply have the run end because of misjudging distance to the edge by an inch. The camera angle moving all the time makes it even harder to correctly judge. I think this is something that really needs to change. I love the game, but loosing multiple times to a boss that is already difficult simply by getting knocked off the ledge is really not fun and kinda takes the wind out of my sails to keep playing.
I smell entitlement in here. The game does not owe you a win just because you’ve made a couple of errors you deem minor while the boss had 10% HP left. Sorry, but this is a mindset of the weak.
Losing, no matter how it happens, is not inherently a bad experience. If you make a mistake and die because of it, that’s simply part of learning the fight. You recognize what went wrong, adjust, and try again. So, the next time you attempt the fight, try to prioritize staying in the middle of the arena instead of running close to the edges.
While I despise the current design of the Crucible with tiny little islands where you gotta fight bruisers with high poise and lots of knockback/health on top of high damage output (especially the Bloated Abominations and False Knights), this is the one instance where I cannot agree with you.
The arena is big enough to not require that you fight near the edge.
It is pretty much the one big exception to the frustration with the Crucible’s design. Now, is Cyvion overbuffed in poise and overly tanky with ridiculous 360 tracking reach and projectiles that go under the floor visually but still hit? Yes. Is his teleport slam pretty stupidly tuned? Sure.
He’s certainly a boss that rewards scummy damage stacking mechanics to 3-tap him to not deal with his BS, and as a result the devs balance him around absurd echo combinations to be a serious sponge for the average player.
Parry has been seriously overnerfed and now it feels pretty impossible to stagger him out and break his poise outside scummier freeze stacking builds. All because of COOP balancing (players were abusing parry to stagger lock bosses and enemies as players can just rotate and stack parry timings in case one player fails the other does land it, which the devs fixed by nerfing parry’s stun duration to be nonexistent but didn’t limit that to coop and still punished solo players as well).
But the size of the arena is the one place where the game is extremely generous in favor of the player, even with the duration of the fire effects.
Well, I’m not entitled and I hear the feedback. I don’t feel or think that the game “owes me a win”. I was attempting to comment on an aspect of the game that I think tends towards “unapproachable”. I have a lot of successful gaming experience with this sort of game, including “souls-like” games (Malenia from Elden Ring), and I just think that the design of Cyvion is a bit too punishing. I’ve beat him multiple times, with multiple characters. I think that dying to being blasted off the edge is not a very fun mechanic. It is entirely possible that most people disagree, in which case I’ll just accept the reality of his design. My post was merely an attempt to give voice to a frustration that I thought others might share. Perhaps I was wrong.
