Co-Op Feedback: PBT Server Differences & 4-Player Stability Concerns

I’ve been really enjoying the new co-op update and appreciate the work the team has put into expanding multiplayer. Playing with friends has been a lot of fun conceptually, but I wanted to raise some concerns we ran into during our sessions.

Question:

How is the Public Beta Test (PBT) server different from the normal live server?

Specifically:

Does it have different server architecture or more bandwidth?

Are there known limitations compared to the live environment?

During co-op play (especially with 4 players), we consistently ran into issues that felt server or sync related:

Frequent low-frame and performance drops

Desync and other sync-related bugs

Players getting disconnected or booted during activities

Running the Crucible with four players was essentially impossible due to connectivity issues

In general, the game felt at its worst when we attempted full four-player co-op, which is concerning because that’s where co-op should shine the most.

My concern is that these server/realm connectivity and bandwidth issues could negatively impact the success of the feature—and potentially the game overall—if they persist into launch.

Is there a plan in place to address these issues ahead of the January 22nd update, and to ensure a smoother co-op experience at release?

Appreciate the transparency so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this improves—because the co-op potential here is genuinely exciting.
